To give you another glimpse on the new album KURBADS here is another new song - In The Underworld! First single can be heard on YouTube channel.

In connection with a new song release, SKYFORGER has also released six minute long Studio Report, a small view of album recording process. Watch it below:

“The tale of Kurbads is a collection of stories and legends recorded near the end of the 19th century by folk enthusiasts. Usually, they were short or medium in length and had many variations. The main theme found in all of them, however, is that of a man who fights against mythical evil forces and, by defeating them, becomes a hero. I think that the tale of Kurbads is interesting because it uncovers many things from Latvia's past, not just historical facts of course, but aspects of daily life and people's ways of thinking who lived in ancient times. Baltic cultural heritage is mostly unknown to Europe and even more so to the rest of the world. So we wanted to reveal some parts of it, and also show that, in Baltic literature, there are great legends and tales just as those about Cuchulainn, Nibelungs, Kalevala, King Arthur and the knights of the round table, and more!”

SKYFORGER's new album Kurbads will be released as a limited 6-panel-Digipak on the 23rd/ 26th of April 2010 via Metal Blade Records in Europe and on the 11th of May 2010 in the U.S.

SKYFORGER recorded KURBADS at Latvian studio Lauska in 2009 together with the bands own bagpipe player Kaspars Barbals handling engineering duties.
The band members also produced the album themselves. The artwork was created by SKYFORGER´s guitarist Martins and is connected to the whole story of Kurbads

About 15 years yet, the thundergod SKYFORGER is raging upon the horizon of Latvian pagan metal. This Baltic heathen quintet could reap their high status within the underground scene by their unique musical vein and charm: bizarre, but melodic black metal in the style of Scandinavian school anchors in a nostalgic heavy metal-basement, which is substantial surrounded by a dominant and very self-contained folk-metal-storm. Skyforger will do new album KURBADS release party at Ragnarök Festival 2010 , and in connection with that, also perform rare folk concert for the first time in Germany!

Since today SKYFORGER have a new label, which is METAL BLADE RECORDS!

We are currently mixing our new album Kurbads which will be released on Metal Blade worldwide. Album is set for release the 23th/26th of April 2010 in Europe, 11th of May in North America. More details on the recording process and the album details will be announced shortly as well as a brand new song will be posted soon!

Happy New year, everyone! Time for some live news / updates:

SKYFORGER have been confirmed for Kaltenbach Open Air festival. Also some club shows are/will be soon added, don't forget to check often the gig section for more infos.

About new album KURBADS - right now that's been mixed, we work on artwork & all other details, so expect some news from us shortly!

Recently we did a festival trip to Ireland and Holland, we send big thanx to Cathal/Jim from Winterfest team and Roman/TMR and of course all metalheads who attended and made this weekend a special one! There was pretty harsh return travel: canceled flights, airports snow-blocked. So, instead of 3 hours we spent 3 days to get home. Needless to say that was no fun, few of us fell ill afterwards. But hey, that was worth it!
